Swine
Pigs are primarily used for their meat. There are around 960 million pigs in the world. In Nebraska there are approximately 3.3 million. In the united States, Iowa is the state with the most pigs. Nebraska is ranked number 5. There are four types of swine operations; they are feeder-pig production, farrow-to-wean, farrow-to-wean, and seedstock operations. There are several different kinds of pigs, some of them include the duroc, landrace, chester white, spot, Poland china, and the Berkshire.
Digestive SystemThe pig is classified as a mono gastric, or one stomach. Their digestive system is very similar to humans. Where ruminant can live off of hay and pasture, pigs need grain that is easier to digest. There are five main parts to the digestive system of the pig. They are the mouth, esophagus, stomach, small intestine and the large intestine.

Adult PigsPigs always need fresh cool water. Pigs do not have sweat glands, so they need something to cool off with. The best is to have mud in the cage with them. Pigs are monogastrics so they need multiple meals throughout the day. Pigs can eat all kind of scraps such as bread, fruits and vegetables. They have specialized pig pellets that fill the complete dietary needs. If you are feeding them forts and vegetables, you want to make sure you give them all different kinds and not one single kind. Pigs need a married diet to get a complete diet.

Reproductive SystemThe females reproductive tract is composed of a pair of ovaries, infundibulums, oviducts and uterine horns. There is also one cervix, one vagina, and one vulva.
The male reproductive tract is made up of testicles, seminiferous tubules, epididymus, vas deferens, urethra, and the penis.
